I just want to be Father Brown. Is that too much to ask?
Is it bad to skip Mass if you do it in order to pick up a huge pile of free books?
What if those books include A Kempis, Aristotle, Chesterton, O’Connor, Milton, and Chaucer?
“The word “rebel” understates our cause. It is much too mild; it lets our enemies off much too easily—By all the working and orthodox standards of sanity, Capitalism is insane. I should not say to Mr. Rockefeller “I am a rebel.” I should say “I am a respectable man and you are not.” - G.K.Chesterton, “Utopia of Usurers”
is Chesterton.
The men of the East may spell the stars
And times and triumphs mark.
But the men signed of the Cross of Christ
Go gaily in the dark.

I love me some GKC

Did you mean this one? If so, there are quite a few other things addressed. I’m terribly sorry if that’s all you got out of it. I’ll agree, it’s not necessarily a mortal sin, nor is it always worse than much more… public failings, like lying or what have you. But unfortunately, I am not concerned with if something is archaic or easy to believe or anything like that. I am only concerned with if something is true, and what the implications are if it is. Here’s Chesterton: “The Catholic Church is the only thing that frees a man from the degrading slavery of being a child of his age.”
P.S. I’m not letting or preventing people from doing anything, be it getting in each other’s pants or masturbating or watching “Jersey Shore”. Nobody made me the wank police; I have no power to compel people to do right or wrong. But for the love of God, I will at least say what is right so that people can perhaps see an alternative to our culture’s sad perversions.
The men of the East may spell the stars,
And times and triumphs mark,
But the men signed of the cross of Christ
Go gaily in the dark.
The men of the East may search the scrolls
For sure fates and fame,
But the men that drink the blood of God
Go singing to their shame.
He kept the Roman Order,
He made the Christian sign;
But his eyes grew often blind and bright,
And the sea that rose in the rocks at night
Rose to his head like wine.
He made the sign of the cross of God,
He knew the Roman prayer,
But he had unreason in his heart
Because of the gods that were.
